Jose-Libaniel Rojas

José-Libaniel Rojas was born in Bogotá Colombia.  Surrounded by a family of musicians, José developed a deep love and appreciation for Latin music.  With his Uncles’ influence José began exploring the sounds of Salsa, Bolero and Merengue.  In 1986 José’s mother moved the family to the U.S. in search of opportunity.  While in school José’s interest and passion for music blossomed.

At age 9 José began studying the trumpet.  His music instructors praised that he was a natural talent and performer.  José loved being on stage.  During a performance, he was spotted by a talent scout who offered him an opportunity to join Los Tropicales, an orchestra of Colombian Cumbia-style salsa.  At the age of 14 José was performing in night clubs and venues around the metro area.  Although many predicted José would continue on to become a musician he realized his true passion by watching the crowds he was making music for.  José wanted to dance!  At the age of 15 he took his first dance lesson with Eddie Torres.  He has not been able to stop studying, and teaching dance ever since. José has been instructing Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Rumba, Bolero, Cha Cha Cha, Tango, Waltz, Fox Trot, Quick Step, Swing, Hustle, Hip Hop and more for over 20 years.

Jose has made appearances on tv shows such as Channel 11 news (on wpix) Las Conmadres Con Gloria B. (on Telemundo) Images/Imagenes (on NJ Network) with Willie Sanchez, NJ News 12 , Caribe Vision and Despierta America ( on Univision)  Jose has also been on the radio, teaching Greg-T how to dance with Elvis Duran and the Z100-morning Zoo.  He also danced in Puerto Rican Day Parade. He enjoys working with all age groups, choreographing for special corporate events, birthdays, weddings, sweet sixteen and anniversaries.

“The Performance”

The spotlight brightens the music begins
I’m up on my toes as I twirl and spin
I jump and I leap from one side to another
feeling just the music never any other.
I raise up in pointe then down in plie
performing what I’ve practiced for so long every day.
To dance is my dream, I can’t let it die
for when I do dance I feel I can fly
The world can disapear my troubles can cease.
For just one moment I am truly at peace.
